Lincoln Conservation Group:
About us

Lincolnshire has some beautiful countryside. What better way to discover it than by volunteering with Lincoln Conservation Group?

The Group was formed in 1994 and we are affiliated to BTCV. We carry out practical nature conservation work in and around Lincoln, helping to conserve the natural history and biodiversity (variety of plant and animal life) of the area, and having fun at the same time!

WHO…?        Volunteers with Lincoln Conservation Group come from all sorts of backgrounds and span all ages (though you must be 16 years or over to join us). We share an interest in our environment and in nature conservation. We also get together socially for the cinema, bike rides, the pub, meals out, etc.

WHAT…?     Our volunteer workday (also known as 'tasks') include coppicing and hedge laying, tree and hedge planting, woodland management, grassland management, dry stone walling, pond restoration and construction work. We carry out work for organisations such as Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust, City of Lincoln Council, Lincolnshire County Council, Natural England, the Forestry Commission, etc.

WHEN…?     We usually hold tasks on the first and third Sunday each month. We meet at the site for 10am and work until 3.30-4pm, depending on the time of year (though we also welcome people for just part of the day). Once or twice a year we venture outside Lincolnshire for an ‘away weekend’ nature conservation task.

WHERE…? We work on the wildlife havens in and around the city of Lincoln, on nature reserves around Lincolnshire and occasionally for nature conservation organisations further afield, for example in Derbyshire and Yorkshire. We share transport to the sites.

WHY…?        There are lots of reasons why we volunteer with the Lincoln Conservation Group, but a few of them are:

Helping to conserve the county’s natural history
Getting out into the countryside at the weekend
Keeping fit
Learning new skills
Making friends
Having fun
Free tea, coffee and biscuits!

Volunteering with the Lincoln Conservation Group is a great way to meet people so come along and join us!
