Lincoln Conservation Group:

Thurlby Wood, 22nd November 2009

Today's task was a mix of planting and chopping down. For the morning, we planted a number of small trees and protecting them with guards and stakes. Colin, the custodian of the wood, had invested in tree guards this time round.  Only a few of the trees we planted a few years ago had survived the rabbits and deer, so this time we needed to give the plants a fighting chance.

For the afternoon, we cut down bushes and scrubby trees that were growing along the ditch by the main track.  This was rapidly burnt on the bonfire Nick got going in the morning.  Colin helped by using his chainsaw, although this ran out of fuel before we did!.  There were about 18 of us for this task and thanks very much to Colin who donated £100 to group funds for our work.
