Lincoln Conservation Group:

Scotgrove Wood, 1st November 2009

As someone had commented, the previous task, how the weather always stayed fine for our tasks, this one started with torrential rain and wind!  Despite this unpromising start, 15 of us turned out to tackle the work.  This was to re-coppice the willow and other growth on the banks of the track into Scotgrove Wood, helping to improve the ground flora in this area.

Nick and Delphine managed to get a bonfire going despite the rain and after a trip to a local shop to get a lighter, matches being no good in the rain. The cut material rapidly built up as the rest of us tackled the thin but prolific regrowth.

Fortunately the rain had stopped by lunchtime and the sun even made an appearance by mid afternoon.  We managed to clear the full length of the entrance track, on both sides and burnt all the cuttings before finishing for the day.
