Scotgrove Wood, 16th November 2008

A welcome return to this Lincolnshire Limewood to continue the clearing of the rides into the wood.
Twelve of us set about felling some larger trees that we had left on the right side of the ride and soon got a good bonfire going, thanks to Johns excellent fire starting skills.

We also enlarged one of the previously created scallops to open up space in the woodland.  These areas provided excellent sheltered spaces for plants and wildlife, including the pheasants being reared for the local shooters.  However, along the track edges, much of the cut stumps had begun to sprout again and the brambles were enjoying the new open spaces along the ditch lines. Another clearance will be needed in these areas if the plan to allow more open spaces for wild flowers is to become reality.

The weather remained calm and sunny all day with the early morning rainclouds never depositing their threatened load.
