Lincoln Conservation Group:

Scotgrove Wood, Sunday 18th March 2007 (Part of the Lincolnshire Limewoods Project)

This task proved not quite so sunny as our last visit, but the snow, rain & strong winds came & went quickly, leaving clear, cold intervals to keep us happy.  The work was a continuation of the previous task, coppicing the trees and shrubs either side of the entrance track to encourage the growth of wild flowers.  Numbers were down a bit on last time, but it was Mother's day, so there were valid excuses! We continued clearing the broad banks either side of the track, making a much neater job than the contractors who had been working further in the woodland using some kind of monster machine to flatten all in its path!

After a lunch break taken, thankfully, in a sunny spell of weather, we continued apace burning as much as possible while ensuring the fire would be down to ash before we left, stockpiling the rest of the cut stuff, hopefully for a return visit later in the season.
