Scotgrove Wood, 15th February 2009
The work continues at this Lincolnshire Limewood, cutting down trees and
scrub to open up glades on the sides of the extensive woodland, improving
the habitat for woodland flowers and insects, particularly butterflies.
We have largely completed the work on the main entrance track into the wood,
so we moved further into the woodland to start on a new section. The main
challenge here was deep ditches filled with icy water that you had to
remember not to step in. I almost managed this, but fell victim to a
boot full of water near the end of the day, ugh!

There
were 12 of us working, including 2 new volunteers. We managed to clear the whole area that had been
marked out, by the end of the day. An impressive bonfire, that John managed
to get going despite the wet conditions underfoot, allowed us to dispose of
most of the cut material. The weather remained cold but sunny, making for a
very enjoyable task.
