Lincoln Conservation Group:

Newt Hollow, 15 June 2008

Newthollow, located west of Lincoln is part of the Lincolnshire Wildlife Trust. This is an ongoing project by the group of fighting the nettles in order to increase plant diversity in a small section of the reserve.

It was a good day as the weather was not too hot or too cold and in fact perfect for this type of work and it was also my first time as a task leader. It was a bit daunting at first but I learnt from the best as Jude told me that it was all down to delegation… which I managed pretty well!! Still we nearly had a drama as I had forgotten to buy the milk but thankfully Nick came to the rescue.

The area has been chemically sprayed for the first time in an attempt at winning this war, it made the job of scything easier but the racking a little harder, and still it should be interesting to see how this evolves. Some willow coppicing was done in the pond but overall the area will need some clearing next time the group comes to visit.

All in all another good day with plenty of green exercising as tonight my body is aching.
