Newt Hollow, 19th July 2009
We returned to our 'adopted' reserve to resume battle with the fields of
nettles... only to find the spraying had done its job this year. Most of the
nettles in the main section were no more, although a strip in the middle,
missed by the spray, showed what would have been waiting for us.
There were still plenty of other areas to tackle, so we kept ourselves
occupied until lunchtime and had the afternoon off. Next year will
show if the chemical warfare has worked better than manual labour.
Mind you, the invasive buttercups were rapidly taking over the reclaimed
ground, so dont expect a rare wildflower meadow just yet!
