Kirkstead Mill, near Woodhall Spa, 15 April 2007

A welcome return to one of our regular sites, helping Tony & Barbara Hodgkinson to maintain their lovely wildlife garden on the edge of the river Witham. The weather was sunny and warm which made for nice working conditions, although the requisite bonfire was a bit much!. Evidence of some of our earlier work was all around us with excellent award winning displays of daffodils in full bloom.

We started by collecting up fallen twigs & branches around the site, the result of the strong winds last month. Then it was on to clearing part the banks of the stream running through the gardens, cutting down some quite large trees to open the banks up for wild flowers & daffodils.

Some of us tackled the endless supply of brambles, digging them up by the roots in an attempt to reduce their re-occurance.  Steven & Lisa also worked in the woodland area, removing the suckers from the base of the trees.

All in all it was a varied and enjoyable task.
