Very good turn out on this glorious first Sunday in September, our target for the day was to rake up the cut hay from the flower rich meadow of Snakeholme Pit and some general maintenance of the butterfly conservation garden at Chambers Farm Wood.
Snakeholme Pit
Ten of us having turned out made a quick task out of this job; the
purpose was to rake up the hay that had previously been cut, the seeds by
then would have fallen to the ground and the unwanted hay had to be remove
from the ground in order to promote next year growth of wildflowers. The
work was finished around 12pm and we then moved on to Chamber Farms
Butterfly Garden to have our well-deserved lunch.
Butterfly Garden
This is an ongoing project for the group and a very fine one, even more
pleasing as it was going to be low maintenance so no heavy work (which most
of us like!!). We had to create a seedbed, to raise one of the plant bed
where the Fleabane did not perform as well as those in drier spots also some
ground sieving/de-stoning was done in the front entrance. Over all this work
finished around 4ish and we all headed back home after a well-fulfilled
afternoon especially for Charlie as he had a very good afternoon nap...they
need it at that age!
