Lincoln Conservation Group:

Chambers Farm Wood, 19th June 2011

14 of us attended this task at one of our regular haunts – Chambers Farm Woods.
The task saw us creating log piles for the benefit of grass snakes to live in and bask on.  We created log piles in a few different locations as much as time permitted.  We weren’t fortunate enough to see any snakes ourselves but hoped they would use our specially created piles.

One incident that was interesting was the discovery of a wasps nest.  This was found by someone sitting nearly on top of it during a coffee break it and suffering a little in the process!!  I had never seen a wasp nest and I’m sure others in the group hadn’t either.  It was approximately the size of a bowling ball and had the appearance of a papier mache construction, with honeycomb type cells. You never know what you might see on one of our task days!
