Birchwood Nature Park, 5th April 2009
This was only our second visit to this small reserve on the edges of the
Birchwood estate in recent years. The job was to cut down small trees
and bushes that were growing along the edges to of the ditch to slow the
rate of clogging of the ditches and to encourage wild flowers to grow along
the banks of the ditches.
Nine of us worked along different sections of the ditch and we rapidly
cleared the banks, creating large piles of cut material to await collection
(no bonfires in this busy urban area unfortunately!) We welcomed 2 new
volunteers, Jonathan and Gill, plus Gill's dog Leo who joined in the
activities.

We had almost finished by lunchtime and completed the remaining sections by
about 3pm with a leisurely afternoon spent in the warm spring
sunshine.
